Lower lip (S-line)

Position of the lower lip against Steiner's S-line, drawn from the chin through the midpoint of the nose's lower slope, in millimeters. Lips on or near the line are considered balanced.

What counts as ideal

The ideal band differs by sex for this measurement: -0.4 mm to 1.4 mm for men and -1.3 mm to 0.5 mm for women. A reading anywhere inside the band scores a full 10.

How it is scored

Everything inside the band scores 10, and the penalty accelerates the further a reading falls outside it rather than dropping off a cliff at the edge. The curve keeps going past them, so an extreme reading still separates from a merely poor one.
