Dimorphism pillar - Facial features
Hairline
How far the corners of the hairline drop toward the brow, measured against face height. A flatter hairline reads more masculine and a rounder one more feminine. The temple pins come from a mesh fitted to face geometry that never sees hair, so the reading only exists once those two pins have been placed by hand.

What the reading means
Hairline places a face on the same 0 to 10 spectrum as every other signal in this pillar: 0 is the softest, most feminine shape and 10 the strongest, most masculine shape. There is no ideal band and neither end is better than the other. The reading comes from a set of landmarks, so photo angle, expression and lighting all move it.
The pillar index combines all 10 signals, over whichever of them a face carries a reading for. A signal with no reading drops out instead of counting as a neutral 5, and the signals do not all count equally.

How well it separates
Across the 203 profiles with a reading, men average 6.32 and women 4.86. That is a moderate separation: 0.68 pooled standard deviations apart, a statistic called Cohen's d. The two groups overlap on every signal here, so a single reading never identifies anyone's sex.
Male mean
6.32 / 10
Female mean
4.86 / 10
Readings run from 0.00 to 10.00, with a median of 5.84. 37 profiles carry no reading for this signal, so they are left out of every number above.
How much this signal counts toward the index follows the published evidence behind it, not the separation measured here. A photographed celebrity library is not a population sample, so read these figures as a description of this library.
