How far visible scalp hair reaches down the hairline-to-chin span, read from an image segmenter rather than from landmarks. Long hair scores low and a shaved or buzzed head scores 10; hair worn up counts only its visible extent. This is an appearance signal, not anatomy, so it carries the smallest weight alongside face shape and it is the one signal a haircut changes.

What the reading means

Hair Length places a face on the same 0 to 10 spectrum as every other signal in this pillar: 0 is the softest, most feminine shape and 10 the strongest, most masculine shape. There is no ideal band and neither end is better than the other. The reading comes from a segmented image, so photo angle, expression and lighting all move it.

The pillar index combines all 10 signals, over whichever of them a face carries a reading for. A signal with no reading drops out instead of counting as a neutral 5, and the signals do not all count equally.
